The aim of our Doula course is to provide an holistic approach to dying. Participants will be informed using a blended approach, based on nursing the sick and spiritual care, recognising the sacredness of dying as part of the Life cycle in this assessed course. This is through either virtual or class room teaching (see courses). It  is suitable for those in the caring professions wishing to gain a different perspective or for novices drawn to this work who are seeking to work in paid and unpaid roles. It would also suit relatives of would be family members so that you can learn what to expect in your caring role.

Covid changed two things for us here at Soul Companions. Firstly, the classroom course was adapted for online and began to reach a new wider audience. This in turn, through you the students, brought greater depth & rich diverse experiences. Secondly the public suffered the disconnection from their loved ones, especially those who were dying, and I believe this has raised the need for care closer to home and the need for everyone who is dying to be able to have an End of Life Care Doula (Death Doula).

Death is something we must all face, but people shouldn’t have to do it alone. GP’s, palliative or community nurses can’t be with patients and families in the same way a doula can, and this is what sets us apart. So, I deem it a huge privilege to train people for these roles and deliver compassionate authentic care, enabling people to die without fear, and support loved ones, so that their grief is understood and recognized through advocacy and care.
